Waterval Works Module 1 – Digester Heating and Mixing

The project included the complete refurbishment of the existing module 1 sludge digestion system at the Waterval WWTW. The existing draught tube mixers was replaced with a more efficient and reliable pump mixing system with Evoqua patented nozzles. Centex chopper pumps were used for the mixing and sludge heating requirements.
The existing boiler room was refurbished and the heat exchanger installed in the room to protect them from the elements. A Cyclotherm boiler was supplied to provide the sludge heating requirements. The contract also included refurbishment of the existing two gas holders. The floating dome gas holder was refurbished on site due to the size of the unit. The membrane gas holder was completely disassembled and a new membrane installed and the sheeting replaced where required.
