Driefontein WWTW Upgrade of the Emergency Overflow Dam

The customer required the Emergency Overflow Dam at the inlet of the Waste Water Treatment Works to be upgraded. This upgrade included the excavation and civil work for the deepening of the existing dam. The upgraded dam is an approximately 25 000 000L, two-compartment, HDPE lined dam complete with under-drainage and leak detection system.

The scope of works also included all penstocks for flow diversion and the associated mechanical and electrial equipment required to pump the dam contents to the inlet works. Eigenbau also installed a new scum pump station and was responsible for the construction of 2 kilometers of new paved access roads in the works and around the dam.
