About Eigenbau

Founded in 1981 by Eddie Ross as a civil engineering contractor focused on concrete construction, Eigenbau has grown over four decades into a full-service infrastructure leader. In 1997, we expanded our capabilities through the acquisition of Sewapurco, establishing a dedicated Mechanical Engineering Division specializing in equipment for water and wastewater treatment plants, hydropower stations, and pumping infrastructure.

Today, Eigenbau’s expertise spans civil and mechanical engineering—from bridges, roads, and reservoirs to filtration systems, clarifiers, and run-of-river hydropower stations.

What sets Eigenbau apart is our complete, in-house turnkey capability. We design, fabricate, construct, commission, and refurbish—all under one roof, providing a single point of accountability from concept through to final handover.

Our hands-on approach extends to electrical and control systems, where we manage detailed design, coordination, and integration in-house. By treating the mechanical and electrical scope as one seamlessly coordinated package, we eliminate the friction and delay typical of disconnected contractors. This model has proven itself on large-scale water and wastewater projects across South Africa and the wider continent, including some of the region’s most demanding refurbishment and upgrade contracts.

Backed Internationally, Managed Locally

In October 2024, Eigenbau joined the global WPIL Group alongside its South African subsidiary, APE Pumps. While operating as a wholly owned member of the group, Eigenbau retains complete local management control and operational independence. The same team continues to make the decisions on your projects—now strengthened by international backing as we support WPIL’s growth ambitions across the African projects market.

This evolution is a natural step forward. It positions Eigenbau to deliver turnkey water and wastewater solutions to a broader market and tackle larger, more complex infrastructure challenges—all while staying true to the hands-on, accountable approach that has defined us since 1981.
